CranioSacral Therapy

A gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance.

An expansion of Cranial Osteopathy – the discovery by Dr William Sutherland, an Osteopathic  Physician of the early 20th century, that by exerting pressure on different parts of the skull he could affect other parts of the body – CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a method developed by Dr. John E. Upledger after years of clinical testing and research at Michigan State University. The goal of both is to return balance to the body in the least invasive way possible.

CranioSacral Therapy uses a very soft touch – generally no greater than 5 grams or about the weight of a nickel – to release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.

By releasing restrictions, tensions and strain in the craniosacral system – the membranes and fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord, your nervous system again functions properly allowing proper healing of a wide variety of dysfunctions, from chronic pain and sports injuries to stroke and neurological impairment.

As an Osteopathic  physician Dr. Childers was introduced to Cranial Osteopathy in medical school and has since expanded his knowledge of Cranial therapy  with advanced training in the Upledger method known as CranioSacral therapy.

Hands On Healthcare helped me manage a serious change in my body last year. It took the medical doctors 5 months to come up with a diagnosis. Rheumatoid arthritis inflammation was attacking different body organs.

Dr. Childers and Phyllis helped me handle this 5 month ordeal with dietary changes, acupuncture, and cranial sacral therapy. Their PEP talks kept me fighting to get control back of my body. They gave me hope that I could defeat what was going on.

After the 5 months my body did a rapid change back to normal. I will continue to control the RA flares with the diet and lifestyle changes that Dr. Childers and Phyllis have taught me. I am so happy that I was referred to them. —Pat Moorman

Benefits of CranioSacral Treatments

CranioSacral Therapy, in its essence, involves gentle manipulations—exceedingly light touch—to test for and release restrictions in the soft tissues that envelop every organ, muscle and bone down to the individual cells. These restrictions are caused by trauma of any nature whether injury, physical or emotional trauma; they can be caused by chemical or biological inflammation. Everything the body experiences, is recorded in the tissue and may cause restrictions. These lead to dysfunction, poor healing, and/or disease.

This is especially important when you consider the two parts of your nervous system that need to remain in balance for healing to occur: the sympathetic (action and energy) and parasympathetic (rest and restore) nervous systems. The quality and regularity of your craniosacral rhythms contributes to the balance between these systems.

By bringing balance to the nervous system and organs, we enhance your body’s own healing abilities. The forces used are exceedingly light and although the focus is in and around the head and spinal column, the treatment may be applied anywhere on the body.

Some people think that medicine is a science, but I know that the practice is both an art and a science. Dr. Childers has been my primary doctor all my adult life because he approaches his practice with an ear to the patient. He listens. He has seen me through my darkest days, and watched me be victorious without judgment. I appreciate his approach to the patient combining the physical, mental, and emotional being.

His cranial sacral procedure helps me. Yes, I can depend on western medical thought from him as well, and I do. But, his cranial sacral procedure develops my entire physical being.  Doc Childers keeps me straight in more ways than one.

For me to brag upon Doc Childers would embarrass him. That it because he is humble and cares. Without hesitation I can recommend Doctor Edward Childers, and have done so for years for those looking for a good doctor.
