The Garden in Your Gut (and skin, and…)

All the bacteria living inside you would fill a half-gallon jug; over 100 trillion organisms: bacteria, viruses, and fungi, live on and within in our bodies with the number of bacteria vastly outnumbering other types of residents.

Since the 1970’s, researchers estimated we have 10 times more bacterial cells than human cells in our body. While new data shows it may be closer to 1:1, if we’re half bacteria, it is only natural to expect a major role for them in how our bodies work.

Surely there is some reason for this.

Strictly speaking, food allergies and allergic reactions are a person’s immune system overreacting to the proteins in certain food. The allergic person can feel like they are getting a cold, can get a rash or start sneezing, have teary eyes, vomit or get stomach cramps or diarrhea, of for that matter, sometimes they retain water and experience a little swelling—or a lot as in the life threatening anaphylactic response.

Eight kinds of food cause most food allergies:

But underneath these allergies is another problem—finding it is the key.

As we watch our child, or ourselves, feel horrible and not thrive. The mystery to how we feel is baffling at best.

Stably Lose Weight by Eating More: 7 Weight Loss Principles

Weight loss fiction #1: Don’t eat more calories than you burn.

Although cutting calories has been a weight-loss mantra for decades, along with “willpower” and “low fat,” NONE are right!

Why? Skipping meals, or reducing calories actually creates an “energy slump.” In order to conserve the few calories coming in, the body slows its metabolism—it burns fewer calories; you feel tired. Denied true food, your body goes into panic, cravings, and then starvation mode.

In a sense, the body further resets its “fatostat” to conserve energy. Because you’ve probably trained your body to live on carbs, it already cannot access and burn the stored energy (fat); your fatostat is already set on “conserve.”

And when you return to a “correct amount” of calories, your body doesn’t increase its energy burn; instead it stores fat expecting a future “famine.”
